The Arcati Mainframe Yearbook has been the de facto reference work for IT professionals working with z/OS (and its forerunner) systems since 2005. Conference
Trevor gave a presentation at the GSE UK Conference 2022 entitled “Ransomware, gaps in SMF records, and detection options”. It looked at how SMF wasn’t quite as good as most people imagined. It pointed out the importance of catching a breach in the early stages – long before databases became corrupted – saying that the first thing hackers do is change your infrastructure (parmlib members, system files, even application files). So, if you don’t stop them then (as they install backdoors and time bombs), your restore process has to go back to before the attack started, otherwise the bad actors can let you restore and just attack again! It stressed the need for the software to know which were good backups and to be able to create jobs to restore for you. And how integrity monitoring (IM) software can help.

School governor
Trevor has been a school governor since 1992. He has been a governor at Hardenhuish School since 2000. He's conducted the Headteacher’s performance review many times, acted as investigating officer, and chaired numerous governor panels. He played a leading role in setting up the Hardenhuish Educational Trust. He is currently chair of members – a committee that oversees the work of the governors.
